Israeli troops kill Gaza woman

Israeli troops have shot and killed a 25-year-old Gaza woman near the border fence between the territory and Israel.

Fatima Abu Musayed was hit by two bullets after soldiers fired warning shots in the air, the army said.

A military source said the soldiers opened fire after spotting two suspicious figures near a patrol at the now defunct Kissufim crossing point.

More than a dozen Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops in recent violence, most of them armed militants.

Last year Israel completed a withdrawal of Jewish settlers and the troops who protected them from the 40-km-long Gaza Strip, which is home to about 1.5m Palestinians.

The Jewish state retains control of the Gaza-Israel land border, as well as the strip's territorial waters and airspace. It occupied Gaza in the 1967 war.

Israeli troops frequently open fire at Palestinians near the fence, fearing they may be trying to plant bombs or launch attacks on troops.
