Eid in Gaza is a mix of joy and fear

Ma'an Gaza – On the eve of Eid Al Adha, the streets of Gaza were filled with pastries and pictures of PLC candidates. But the joy was missing from the people as they seemed afraid of a sudden aerial bombardment. Too many Israeli attacks have left Gazans tense and expecting the worst.

The mingling of feelings of joy and tension lead some to buy sheep as an offering to the Prophet for all the prayers of God to be upon him. Others feel intense concern due to the Israeli warplanes which fly near their homes and buildings in the northern Gaza Strip.

During street interviews with residents in Gaza, 50 year old Jamal Al Hadad expressed his determination to celebrate the feast and he said that he bought the sacrificial sheep three days ago. He said he will create the feeling of happiness of the feast in spite of the Israeli aggressions.

Gaza resident Abu Mahmoud answered the question about his Eid Al Adha preparations by saying, ‘What kind of feast is this? I don't see any signs of the kind of feast you're talking about, but I can see the signs of fear which can kill any sign of happiness.’

The man, Abu Mahmoud, continued to tell Ma'an's street reporter, ‘From one side we fear the uncontrolled chaos which the PA cannot stop.’
