CEC head calls for resolution of voting protocol for Palestinian security personnel

Maan Gaza – The General Director of the Central Elections Commission, Ammar Dwiek, urged Palestinian Authority officials to resolve issues related to the voting protocol for Palestinian security forces before the 25 January Palestinian Legislative Council elections.

Dweik complained about disagreements between the Commission and the PLC, saying, 'I wish that the PLC would agree with the demands of the Commission to permit security forces to vote three days before the election.' He added, 'We don”t need any more reasons to postpone the elections.'

The Commission and the PA disagree as to the method of voting for Palestinian security personnel. The PA ordered that they be able to vote in their offices and training camps, whereas the Commission proposed that security personnel be permitted to vote three days ahead of the election.

Dweik delivered his remarks during a press conference on Monday. The General Director said that 4,500 local observers will monitor the PLC elections along with 450 European Union observers and delegations from Jordan, Egypt, India, and Romania.
