EU Foreign Ministers meeting to discuss Hamas PLC win

Bethlehem (Ma'an) - The US is pushing the EU to cease funding efforts for the Palestinian government since Hamas won the Palestinian Legislative Council elections.

European Union Foreign Ministers are holding meetings to discuss the Palestinian situation after Hamas swept the PLC elections Wednesday.

An EU source reported Monday morning that financial support will be a main topic of conversation after various threats to slash it if Hamas won.

Diplomatic sources in Brussells say they believe the EU may about accelerate their decision making process as Palestinian President Abbas remains in office and has not yet formed a new government.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said from London Sunday night that she expects European nations to make a major decision against Hamas as it is ‘part of a list of terrorist groups.’

Rice issued a statement before she left the US for Monday's London meeting to that the US administration will not support the Palestinian Authority government, managed by Hamas. The US Secretary of State said she will ask other nations to follow suit.
