Ma'an Gaza – Leaders and members of the Fateh movement in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah announced their resignation en masse from the party during a meeting Saturday.
Participants in the meeting called to create a committee in order to arrange elections for new leadership within the party.
During the meeting, local Fateh leaders called for the resignation of the movement's Central Committee and Revolutionary Council. They also called for Fateh's Sixth Conference to be convened as soon as possible.
Participants in the meeting asked Fateh members to not participate in a future government led by the Islamic resistance movement, Hamas.
The massive resignation of Fateh leaders and members in Rafah comes after Hamas achieved a stunning electoral victory in Wednesday's Palestinian Legislative Council elections.
