Ma'an (Jenin) – The Israeli Military Court in Salem sentenced seven Palestinian political prisoners from the Jenin area Monday.
Additionally the military court extended the sentences of two Palestinians from the northern West Bank city of Jenin.
A lawyer from the Resalat Human Rights Center, Farid Hawash, reported that the Israeli military's Salem Court sentenced 20 year old Mahmoud Zidan from Jenin of 34 months in prison, 25 year old Bilal Salih from Qabatiya Village to 14 months in prison, 21 year old Mohammad Alawneh also from Qabatiya Village to three years in prison, and 30 year old Nasri Kamil, again from Qabatiya Village, to 16 months in prison.
Attorney Hawash added that the Israeli Salem Military court extended sentences of 24 year old Mohammad Jeradat and 24 year old Ibrahim Mousa Tahaineh, both from the town of Al Silyh Al Harithiyah north of Jenin City.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society, some 9,000 Palestinian political prisoners are currently in Israeli jails, suffering lack of adequate food, warm clothes and blankets, family visits, or medical services necessary from disease and injuries sustained during well-documented torturous interrogations. Several have not even been charged with a crime or afforded a ‘trial’ where all evidence is kept secret, even from the defendant and his attorney.
