Ramallah (Ma'an) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced that Fatah remains undecided about joining a new Hamas led Palestinian government. Abbas said that negotiations with Hamas will be on going saying, ‘If we find common ground for negotiations, Fateh should participate in the government for the benefit of Palestinians.’
In a interview with Al Hurra TV, Abbas said that he is speaking daily with the US government to ensure support for Palestinians and pointed out that US State Department Representative David Welch will visit Ramallah later this week to continue discussions.
Abbas described Israel's attitude to the new Palestinian Authority as ‘aggressive’ and said that Israel ‘should not punish the Palestinian people if they don't like the current political situation.’
He said that Arab and Palestinian businessmen are undertaking a number of projects in the Gaza Strip to help the Palestinian economy.
