Ramallah: Israeli authorities today prevented legislative council member and head of the Independent Palestine coalition, Mustafa Barghouthi, from travelling to the Gaza Strip. Dr. Barghouthi was due to attend a meeting between Independent Palestine representatives and Hamas, but was refused a travel permit by the Israeli ‘Civil Administration’.
Meanwhile, a meeting between Independent Palestine coalition members in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem was held today via a video conferencing system.
The meeting addressed results of the first session of the Palestinian Legislative Council on Saturday and negotiations over the formation of a new cabinet, as well as a recent meeting between an Independent Palestine delegation and President Mahmoud Abbas.
Meeting participants also affirmed the need to create a united Palestinian leadership in order to confront Israel’s ongoing policy of imposing a unilateral ‘solution’ to the conflict.
