Ramallah, 23-03-06: Palestinian National Initiative General Secretary, Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi MP, met today with Mr. Alexei Bogodin, head of the Russian Federation’s delegation to the Palestinian Authority.
Dr. Barghouthi updated Mr. Bogodin on the current situation in Palestine, placing particular emphasis on the threat the recent escalation in Israeli military activities poses to the fragile situation in the region. He also addressed the dangers Ehud Olmert’s unilateral plan to set the final borders of the Israeli state within four year, poses to the ability to achieve a viable, contiguous and independent future Palestinian state.
He called for an international peace conference to resurrect the ‘peace process’, and to bring resolution of the conflict back to its basis in international law and peace agreements, and United Nations resolutions.
From his side, Mr. Bogodin briefed Dr. Barghouthi on the outcome of a recent meeting between Russian President, Vladimir Putin, and Hamas representatives in Moscow.
