Palestinian FM urges Muslims to help ease financial crisis

Foreign minister Mahmud Zahar said he plans to ask all Muslims to dig into their pockets to help lift his government out of financial crisis, a Sudanese foreign ministry source said.

Speaking in Khartoum on the last leg of a regional fundraising tour, Zahar said he would ask Muslims around the world to donate one dollar each to the Palestinian people at an upcoming Islamic conference, the source said.

After a 45-minute meeting with his Sudanese counterpart Lam Akol, Zahar described his trip as ‘successful’.

‘The countries visited have agreed to continue giving aid to the elected Palestinian government,’ he said.

For his part, Kol called on the international community not to tie the question of financial aid to politics.

‘Any solution to the current Palestinian problem must be done with an exchange of views,’ said Kol.
