10 demonstrators and one Israeli soldier injured in Bil'in's weekly demonstration against the Separation Wall

Ma'an-On Friday, about 250 Palestinian demonstrators plus a large number of international, Israeli and Palestinian peace activists, PLC representatives (including Qais Abdel Karim Abu Laila, Munib Awwad and Mustafa Barghouthi), in addition to the Arab member of the Israeli Knesset Mohammad Baraka, and Abu Mazen's office manager, Rafiq Al-Husseini, participated in the weekly demonstration against the separation wall that has annexed lands belonging to the village of Bil'in, south of Ramallah.

Ten demonstrators were slightly injured during clashes with the Israeli forces. The Israeli soldiers used sound bombs, tear gas and truncheons to attack the demonstrators.

Israeli sources mentioned that an Israeli soldier was slightly injured by stones thrown at the Israeli forces.

MK Mohammad Baraka said during the demonstration: 'We went out in a peaceful demonstration to combat the wall but the soldiers restrained us and starting shooting towards us'.

PLC member Mustafa Barghouthi's office stated in a statement: 'the people's participation in this demonstration on the eve of the commemoration of the 'Naksa' on June 5 emphasizes that our Palestinian people are determined to continue their struggle to bring the wall down and to put and end to occupation and settlements'.

Barghouthi added that the extensive Israeli forces that were employed to combat the demonstrators 'show how weak the occupation is in contrast to the determination of the defenceless Palestinian people who protects their rights with their bare chests'.

Palestinian Medical Relief ambulances and crews gave treatment and first aid to the injured demonstrators and those suffering from gas asphyxiation.
