Ramallah-Ma'an-Palestinian Sunday newspapers have heavily criticized preconditions set by Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh, for the formation of a government of national unity.
Al-Quds said in its editorial,' We cannot tell whether these preconditions are personal or factional, but we know one thing for sure: he who sets such conditions is not interested in forming a government of national unity because these conditions give Israel more pretexts to continue its siege and starvation policy against the Palestinian people.'
The Al-Hayah Al-Jadidah newspaper published a lengthy report which said that the prime minister's preconditions would create the impression that the desire to form a government of national unity was an Israeli decision rather than a Palestinian one.
Hani Habib wrote in Al-Ayyam that the Palestinian government's position seems to aim at prolonging its own life rather than contributing to the formation of a government of national unity.
Another article accused Hamas of rejecting the proposal for a government of national unity from the time that they initially formed the government. He said that he held Hamas responsible for the current situation.
