Call for international conference to end Israeli occupation

Ramallah-Ma'an-Palestinian Legislative Council member and Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative, Dr. Mustafa Al Barghouthi, has met with the Belgian Minister of Development and Co-operation, Amnidi Dikir, and Head of the Development committee in the European Parliament, Luisa Morgantini.

Dr. Al Barghouthi called for the decision of the International Court of Justice in The Hague against the construction of the separation wall in the West Bank to be presented to the United Nations General Assembly. He said that sanctions should be imposed on Israel because of its continued construction of the wall.

He also called for an international conference to support the end of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and for the implementation of the Arab initiative which will enable the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state, not isolated cantons.

He added that the motivation for the conference was to restore the primacy of the Palestinian issue and to stop Israel from imposing its policy of unilateralism.

He pointed out that that Palestinians and Arab parties are engaged in consultations about holding an international conference and the need to make such a request to the General Assembly of the United Nations.
