Gaza - Ma'an - Palestinian Legislative Council member Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi was in the Gaza Strip last week visiting the Palestinian prime minister Ismail Haniyeh.
Barghouthi discussed with the prime minister on Thursday ways to preserve the current shaky truce and to resume the dialogue regarding the formation of a national unity government.
Barghouthi is playing an important role in mediating between Haniyeh and the Hamas faction on one side, and President Abbas and the Fatah faction on the other.
Barghouthi also met with the prominent non-partisan Palestinian figure Haider Abdul Shafi and discussed recent developments. It is also reported that Barghouthi met an Egyptian delegation who are playing a strong and important role in preserving law and order in the Gaza Strip.
