Ramallah - Ma‘an - The new Palestinian minister of information, Dr Mustafa Barghouthi, met on Monday with the Norwegian deputy foreign minister, Raymond Johansen. The Norwegian representative to the Palestinian Authority also attended the meeting, which dealt with the overall situation in the Palestinian arena, specifically the unity government.
Barghouthi expressed his appreciation for Norway‘s supportive position towards the Palestinian unity government. He depicted the Norwegians‘ support as the first step towards breaking the embargo against the Palestinian people.
Both officials discussed in their meeting the means for bilateral cooperation and the importance of portraying a true image of events in the occupied Palestinian territories.
With regards to the kidnapped BBC reporter, Barghouthi affirmed that the government is making every possible effort to release him, and pointed out that the phenomenon of abducting foreign journalists is harmful to the Palestinian image.
For his part, the Norwegian deputy foreign minister confirmed that his country is willing to cooperate with the Palestinian government in all spheres. He also stressed the need to carry out a prisoners‘ exchange between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
