Barghouthi meets Italian foreign minister and other high-ranking Italian politicians in his quest to end the siege

Ramallah - Ma‘an - Palestinian minister of information Dr Mustafa Barghouthi met in Rome on Monday with the Italian foreign minister, Massimo D‘Alema, and deputy minister of international development and cooperation, Patrizia Sentinelli. He also met with the deputy president of the European parliament, Luisa Morgantini, and he will later meet with the president of the Italian chamber of deputies, Fausto Bertinotti.

Barghouthi said that he had the opportunity to explain the importance of the Palestinian unity government, and its political and social programs, in addition to the necessity that the international community recognizes that government, with no exceptions, because it represents 96% of the Palestinian voters.

Barghouthi also explained the necessity that Israel releases the Palestinian tax revenues which it currently withholds.

For his part, D‘Alema highlighted the importance of establishing peace in the region and improving the Palestinian situation through ending the crisis which resulted from the international embargo.
