Olmert refuses list of Palestinians to be released from Israeli prisons in exchange

In a meeting of the Israeli Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee on Wednesday, the Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert refused to accept the list of Palestinian names. They are the political prisoners meant to be released in exchange for the Israeli soldier who was captured while invading the southern Gaza Strip on 25 June 2006.

He said that the list creates expectations that are impossible to meet.

The Quartet, including the US, EU, UN and Russia, will be involved in a meeting with Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, and Saudi Arabia. Israel is expected to join.

The Arab foreign ministers are meeting in Cairo today.
