Bethlehem - Ma‘an - According to Jewish news service, JTA, former United States president, Jimmy Carter, has offered to raise funds to enable students to visit Palestine.
Carter announced the offer during a signing of his latest book ‘Palestine: Peace not Apartheid‘ at the University of California-Irvine. Carter pledged to students at the university "if you take me up on it, I‘ll raise the funds to pay for your trip."
The offer was made specifically to Jewish and Arab students. According to the JTA, relations between Jewish and Arab students at the university are particularly tense.
Carter says "I‘d like to see the leaders form a combined group and take my invitation to go to Palestine and see what‘s going on for yourselves."
Jewish students at the university protested against the talk from the former president.
The JTA alleged that "Jews and Arabs on the California campus have accused each other of intimidation and harassment".
