Minister of Information expresses disappointment over Israel’s negative response to Palestinian peace efforts
Ramallah, 27-05-07: The Minister of Information and Government Spokesperson Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi warned today against the implications of Israeli threats to expand aggression against Gaza.
Dr. Barghouthi commented on the decisions of the Israeli government saying that threats to assassinate Palestinian leaders and carry out a land offensive in the Gaza Strip indicate the likelihood of another wave of violence in the region in an Israeli attempt to drag the area into more tension.
Dr. Barghouthi pointed out that the Israeli provocations will not stop the Palestinian government‘s efforts to achieve a comprehensive, reciprocal ceasefire.
The Minister of Information said it was surprising and ironic that at a time when the Palestinian national unity government is seeking to achieve calm, the Israeli government is ordering its army to escalate its aggression on the Palestinian people.
Barghouthi stressed that Israel was mistaken if it believed it is capable, through aggression and military adventures, to impose surrender on the Palestinian people, pointing out that the shortest way to achieve security and stability would be to realize a comprehensive, mutual ceasefire and to end the 40-year long occupation.
The Minister of Information held the Israeli government responsible for the consequences of its aggression and the continuation of bombing and assassinations.
