Israeli Military Arrests Health Worker and Cancer Patient in Nablus

Ramallah, 03-01-08: The Israeli military has arrested a health worker and a man suffering from cancer during an attack on Nablus which began at dawn today.

Taher Kousa, a driver of one of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society‘s mobile clinics, was arrested whilst trying to bring food and essential medicines to residents of Nablus‘ Old City. Numerous Palestinians are trapped in their homes since the Israeli military declared the Old city a closed military zone and prevented all entry to and exit from the area since they attacked.

Saher Ahed Taqrouri, a cancer patient who had obtained a permit to travel to Jerusalem for urgent treatment, was also arrested during the attack.

Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi MP, who is currently in Nablus, called the arrests "senseless" and added that attacks on health workers in areas under occupation are a direct violation of international humanitarian law.
