Ramallah, 13-01-09: Avidgor Lieberman, the Chairman of Israel Beitenu (Israel Our Home), the 5th largest political party in Israel stated today, regarding the massacre in Gaza, that Israel should “do to Hamas what the US did to Japan. “
“We must continue to fight Hamas just like the United States did with the Japanese in World War II," Lieberman added. "Then, too, the occupation of the country was unnecessary."
To Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi MP, The Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative, “the Israeli politicians statements disproportionate, such as their bloody actions on our people in Gaza.”
“In 1945, US launched two atomic bomb attacks on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, resulting in one of the biggest tragedy in human history that has been condemned many times”, added the deputy.
“Avidgor Lieberman is an extreme orator from whom we are used to hear extreme speeches. But this shows one more time that Israel never learn lesson from the past and rather invokes one of the bloodiest massacres in History to be the fate of the Gazans. They don’t have respect for human life”, he said, noting the extremely high amount of support for Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip amongst the Israeli public.
Early January, during the Israeli air strikes and previous to the ground invasion in Gaza, Israeli polls published found that 81% of Israelis supported the war in Gaza.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, affirmed that the “IDF offensive was serving the interest of the Palestinian people, as well as that of Israel.”
“How could a bloodbath, killing more than 935 of our people, and injuring more than 4,280 - most of them civilians- be good for the sake of Palestinian people?”, the deputy wondered.
“If Livni wants to raise the voice of the ‘moderate Palestinians’, she should keep in mind that such actions will not undermine Hamas but rather strengthen it considerably as their message of resistance and revenge is echoed more and more by the angry and grieving.
