Ongoing Israeli air strikes on Gaza: a prelude for a new military offensive?

 “Israel continues to target the Gaza Strip in its air raids and artillery incursions, killing civilian population: this dramatic increase of violence is similar to the events in November 2008 that preceded the terrible aggression in Gaza. Israeli provocative incursions staged in these days represent a real possibility of launching a major military offensive” said Dr Barghouthi. “The Israeli Government is initiating a new public relations campaign aimed at preparing fertile public opinion for an eventual military assault, discharging on Palestinians all responsibilities for the ongoing escalations of violence.” 
 

Meanwhile the oppressive Israeli military and economic blockade of Gaza still continues, strangulating 1.5 million people.  

Referring to the Goldstone Report, the report issued by South African Jurist Richard Goldstone following UN Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Strip, which holds Israel accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity, Dr Barghouthi called for a discussion at the UN and for referral to the ICC in order to carry out “prosecutions of Israeli leaders and military”, emphasizing “the need of imposing sanctions and boycott actions on Israel.”
