Mustafa Barghouthi: Netanyahu wants to keep Palestinians in a land of ghettos.

Ramallah: MP Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative harshly criticized statements by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu declaring that Israel must have a presence in the West bank even after a peace agreement is achieved.

In response to Netanyahu’s interview, Barghouthi said that “Israeli government has shown its only intention to continue its occupation and keep Palestinians in a land of cantons and enclaves, instead of allowing the establishment of an independent PalestinianState with full sovereignty”.

Barghouthi added that under the conditions Israel government is trying to impose an enduring military occupation and is eroding any future chance for a Palestinian State, under these conditions no peace negotiations can be resumed.”

Netanyahu’s declarations reflect the real agenda of the Israeli Government, which is continuing the confiscation of occupied lands, this agenda requires more efforts by the international community in order to impose sanctions on Israel.

Barghouti called for the restoration of a national unity and for the end of divisions, highlighting that “negotiations are useless without a freeze of settlements in the occupied territories, especially in Jerusalem.
We will be unable to halt settlements expansion or any other Israeli policy of apartheid if we do not engage in a unified strategy against it.”
