The Palestine Solidarity Campaign hosted Dr Mustafa Barghouthi

Dr Mustafa Barghouthi’s speech at the Annual General Meeting of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) did not fail to be one of the most eloquent and informative that you will hear from any visiting Palestinian representative today: beginning with the words of Nelson Mandela:

“Our Freedom will never be complete until the Palestinian people are free.”

He continued by discussing the urgent needs of the Palestinians, the overwhelming domination of the Israeli viewpoint in the media, and the subsequent reluctance of the international community to stand up for these oppressed peoples.

Dr Barghouthi, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative (and trained medical doctor) has been nominated for the 2010 Nobel Peace prize, based upon his impeccable political record and his championing of a ‘massive, popular, non-violent resistance movement’ that continues to gain support. At today’s London conference Dr Barghouthi spoke about the sham that is the peace process: a peace process cover-up so to speak: i.e. as long as it exists, in ore form or another, the Palestinians are expected to turn a blind eye to the ongoing expansion of settlements and all the other incursions that are taking place in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Dr Barghouthi is an eloquent speaker who is based in Ramallah and has an honorable record in portraying the facts on the ground in the region. Pointing to a number of other changes he added: At the time of the mistaken Oslo Agreement, there were 200,000 settlers by that has now doubled. Palestinians don’t want handouts our charity, the do expect justice, and to date, they have none, and there are no significant offerings on the horizon.

Israel has just moved into the position of being the 4th largest military arms exporter in the world, surpassing even Britain, brining with it huge profits.

Israel’s classification of people falls into the following categories:

1)      Those who totally support Israel

2)      Terrorists

3)      Anti Semites

4)      Self hating Jews

Dr Barghouthi was frank in his criticism of Israel, and not without good reason:

“Israelis will never be free as long as the Palestinians are not” and “they have nothing to be proud of” in their “expansionist, militaristic” policies.
