Socialist International is an international delegation to investigate the assault on its Freedom Flotilla.


  New York: Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative said that the Palestinian delegation to the Conference of the Socialist International in New York, consisted of representatives of Fatah and the Palestinian National Initiative succeeded in adopting a unprecedented resolution in support of Palestine that was unanimously approved.

Barghouthi said that the decision affirms the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people and demanding an end to Israeli occupation of all territories occupied in 1967 land, including East Jerusalem within a year.
 
Barghouthi said the decision also included a call to establish a democratic Palestinian state with its full sovereignty of East Jerusalem as its capital during the same year.

The conference that was lead by Greek Prime Minister Papandreou and included delegations from all over the world, including the British Labour Party and German Social-Democratic Party and the ruling Socialist in Spain, demanded that Israel completely stop all settlement activities, separation wall, and bypass roads in order to ensure freedom of movement of Palestinians in the Palestinian territories.
 
 

The conference upon Israel to lift the siege on the Gaza Strip, stressing the need for freedom of access for all goods and materials into the Gaza Strip according to international law.

 
The Conference called for the release of all captives and prisoners in Israeli jails as well as the Israeli soldier Shalit.

In an unprecedented step, the conference decided to send a delegation of high-level international parties participating in the conference to the region without delay to investigate the tragic attack that took place on Freedom Flotilla in order to report and conduct examination for the Socialist International.

 
The decisions made is a serious development after the former Socialist International condemned the attack on the Freedom Flotilla in which they represent the response to the position of the United Nations in which an investigation should be made.
 
Dr.  Mustafa Barghouthi said that Fatah‘s and the Palestinian National Initiative’s delegation held a series of joint meetings with a number of delegations from various countries in which the Palestinian delegations worked as a team harmoniously and effectively and received support. 

Dr.  Mustafa Barghouthi met with with Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou and discussed the situation in Palestine, efforts of national unity and the dangers of the Israeli expansionist policy, including the unjust siege on Gaza.
 
Dr. Barghouthi also met with delegations of the National Congress of South Africa, Indian National Congress, and the delegations of the Socialist Parties of Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Finland, Morocco, Tunisia, Chile and Argentina, in which they discussed efforts to advocate the Palestinian cause and impose effective pressure on the Israeli government  in which it was clear it that it had entered into a state of unprecedented political isolation.
