Ramallah, February 5:
Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative, today called for Palestinian solidarity with the Egyptian people and their democratic demands in order to maintain Egypt’s role and strengthen its position in the region and the world.
Dr. Barghouthi said Egypt’s contribution to the Palestinian struggle for independence and equality is unmatched in the history of the Palestinian national movement, and the Palestinian people will not forget the Egyptian people’s solidarity and great sacrifices.
The political advancements demanded and enacted today in the Arab world will pave the way towards democratic progress, establish social, human and economic rights, and combine with true political and social democracy to promote these in the Arab world, which is today facing many difficult and diverse challenges, Dr. Barghouthi said.
Egypt’s power and actions towards democracy, Dr. Barghouthi said, and the people’s demands for their rights and national unity, will strengthen their solidarity with the Palestinian people and change the balance of power in the region towards the side of justice, end Israeli occupation and apartheid, and achieve freedom and independence.
Today at 2pm, Dr. Barghouthi will join a Palestinian solidarity march in support of the Egyptian people in Ramallah’s Al Manara Square. They will gather to nonviolently show their support for the Egyptian people’s democratic and peaceful aspirations.
