Two Independent Palestine local election observers were arrested by the Israeli military in the H1 zone of Hebron City today.

In separate meetings held today with Independent Palestine candidates, Mustafa Barghouthi, Raja Shehadeh, Khalid As’sayfi, and Nassif I-Deek, a group French and Spanish parliamentarians upheld their support for the cause of Palestinian democracy, and for the key role Independent Palestine is playing in fostering the development of a democratic system in Palestine.

Independent Palestine head, Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, met with former US president Jimmy Carter today in Ramallah. Mr. Carter is in Palestine as part of a multinational delegation of observers from the Carter Center and the National Democratic Institute to monitor tomorrow’s parliamentary elections.

Independent Palestine reaffirmed its position as a truly democratic, viable alternative to Fatah and Hamas in a televised debate between leading candidates from all 11 lists, recorded yesterday in Ramallah.
