Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, head of the Palestinian National Initiative party, has confirmed that he received an offer to participate in the new Palestinian unity government during his meeting with Ismail Haniyeh in Gaza on Sunday.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called for presidential and parliamentary elections to be held at the 'earliest opportunity'. A new poll was the only way to resolve the current crisis, Mr Abbas said.
