During the Friday demonstration in the West Bank village of Ni'lin, Israeli forces shot a Palestinian. Sa'd Attallah Amira was reportedly taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. He was shot in the foot, onlookers added.

During the interview, Barghouti talked about the difficulties facing the Middle East peace process labeling it as “clinically dead." Barghouti believes stalling talks over the last decades have allowed Israel to continue its policies of illegal settlement expansions rather than work towards creating a real and lasting solution.

During a conference held at Wattan Media Center, MP Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative, exposed the current political situation in the Palestinian territory. “What we see today” declared Dr Barghouti in the opening of his speech “is a deep and concerning political crisis whose origins reside in Israeli policies - international and humanitarian law violations and the ongoing occupation on Palestinian people and their land”.

The Palestinian National Initiative is supportive of the idea of a unilateral declaration, as long as it is differentiated from Israeli proposals for a Palestinian state with “temporary borders” on about 40% of the West Bank, according to the party’s leader Mustafa Al-Barghouthi. He also said Palestinians should be wary of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal for economic peace as alternative to real peace.

Hundreds of people joined yesterday the Friday prayers in the village of Ni’lin. Shaikh Salah al-Khawaja Tayeh declared “Today we dedicate our actions not only to our ongoing struggle in the town of Ni'lin; we also want to protest for the recent events in Jerusalem against the Holy places where continuous operations have been carried on by Israeli authorities and several restrictions have been imposed on Palestinians”.

Dr Mustafa Barghouti, Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative, appeared yesterday on the Daily Show, the American night television talk show, together with the Jewish American writer Anna Balzer. They discussed the situation in the occupied territories, advocating a non-violent approach.
